“I remember having that unbridled fascination with pregnancy and birth, and my mother’s midwife saying to me ‘maybe one day you’ll become a midwife.’ From that time on, I knew midwifery was my calling.”
Maisey Michalec, MSN, CNM, FNP-C, joined Allen Midwifery and Family Wellness in early 2021. She knew she was destined for working with women and newborns while watching her mother’s homebirth with a midwife at age 10.
“I remember having that unbridled fascination with pregnancy and birth, and my mother’s midwife saying to me ‘maybe one day you’ll become a midwife.’ From that time on, I knew midwifery was my calling.”
Maisey grew up in a small town outside of Houston, TX and earned a BS in Allied Health with a minor in Biology from Texas A&M in 2014. She completed her BSN at Texas A&M Health Science Center in 2016 with her sights set on attending midwifery school. Upon graduating with her BSN, she attended Vanderbilt university and graduated with her MSN in 2018 and has been practicing midwifery ever since. Whilst in her midwifery program, she enjoyed working with clients in a variety of settings, from a busy urban practice at Vanderbilt Hospital, to a small community midwifery clinic in rural western Kentucky. Upon finishing her midwifery program, she returned to Texas and practiced in a high-volume private OBGYN practice for several years in San Antonio.
“It became apparent to me that a lot of women are not aware that they have options in healthcare, and should always be offered options, by their care provider. I want women to thrive during pregnancy, and never feel as if they have to settle for decisions they would not have chosen for themselves, simply because that is the preference of their care provider.”
Through her own journey of struggling with autoimmune disease, she discovered her passion for functional and preventive medicine, and pursued her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification in order to expand her practice to families throughout all life stages. She joined Allen Midwifery and Family Wellness shortly after the practice expanded to include more wellness services.
“Our bodies are made to heal, and many chronic struggles can be mitigated with knowledge, consistent lifestyle changes, and a little guidance from a practitioner who knows you and cares about you.”
