The ABC Legacy
Established in 2003, Allen Birthing Center (ABC) was founded to provide holistic midwifery care in a home-like setting, where families could build relationships with their midwives and feel supported throughout pregnancy and birth.
For many families, ABC was more than a birth center. It was a place where care felt unhurried, providers were familiar, and important life moments were collectively celebrated.
That legacy laid the foundation for the now Allen Midwifery & Family Wellness (AMFW) practice, and continues to shape who we are today.
A House with History
Built in 1911 and carefully restored, the historic Baccus-Brown house has witnessed generations of families gathering, growing, and moving through life’s meaningful transitions for more than a century. A combination of history and purpose remains central to the space.
When Allen Birthing Center opened its doors here in 2003, the goal was to create an environment that truly felt like home. Warmth, privacy, and comfort were intentionally woven into the experience, offering families a setting that supported physiologic birth while honoring the intimacy of the moment.
Shaping Midwifery Care in North Texas
From its early years, ABC helped shape what midwifery-led care could look like in North Texas. In 2004, Certified Nurse-Midwife Amy Giles joined the practice, and in 2010, she and her husband Jeff Giles purchased Allen Birthing Center, continuing and expanding its original vision.
Amy later became the first out-of-hospital midwife in North Texas to obtain hospital privileges, helping bridge birth center and hospital care at a time when such models were far less common.
Growth Without Losing Heart
In 2020, Allen Birthing Center rebranded as Allen Midwifery & Family Wellness, reflecting the growth of the practice beyond birth alone. Services expanded to include care across the lifespan, while the core philosophy remained unchanged.
Today, the practice offers birth center and hospital birth, postpartum and newborn care, women’s and men’s health, wellness services, and hormone therapy, all grounded in the same values that defined ABC from the beginning.
A Living Legacy
The ABC legacy is not something we’ve left behind. It lives on in the way care is provided, the relationships that develop over time, and the space that continues to support families through life's milestones.
What began as Allen Birthing Center remains the foundation of our work, reminding us that growth does not require losing what matters most.
