Setting the standard for midwifery care in DFW since 2003

I switched to the Allen Birthing Center with the recommendation of my dear friend and doula with the North Dallas Doula Associates. Each midwife brought a different type of approach and their own knowledge/ experience, but they were each amazing in how they cared for me.
They were actually the first care provider I've ever had to ask about my mental state and got me to admit my eating disorder because of what they asked/how they asked it. They checked in on me at each visit without being invasive or insensitive. We carefully monitored my weight at my own ease and they trusted me to come to them if/when I needed them which was essential to my mental health.
I began prodromal labor about a week before active labor and they helped me make the choice to take my leave from work early to help reduce stress during the time I needed to be the least stressed.
The night I went into active labor, Lauren met us at the center and started my care as I needed to progress a bit more before it was push time. The nursing staff was so supportive and helpful during the prenatal and active labor care that they can't be left out either. Shift change came about, Kristen walked in and it was pretty much game time. I received the firm and direct guidance I expect from anyone with a passion for what they do.
I welcomed my baby boy into this world with the most amazing birthing team from ABC, my NDDA Doula and my amazing husband. I was given the ability to achieve my natural birth goal, even with gestational diabetes, and I felt empowered during the whole process and then some.
Giving birth can be scary, but with the right education and support, it doesn't have to be. Thank you for giving me that experience. 🥰

My husband got laid off when I was several weeks pregnant so we didn't have insurance. When I called some OBs, the moment the front desk person knew that I didn't have insurance their voice changed and assumed I couldn't afford it. So I thought I would try a midwife instead. I decided to call ABC after some researching. The first call with Josephine was really nice, then the first tour of the place was great. We booked our birth there right away.
Everyone there is very nice, relax and make us feel very comfortable. They treat me more like a friend and less like a patient. Even though I didn't know my exact due date (2 weeks off) and I had GBS positive and gestational diabetes, they made me feel confident that everything is alright and I would have a healthy baby.
I'm also glad that we took the birthing class (the Bradley way) at ABC, they taught us what kind of exercises to practice for a smoother labor. Or you will know the signs of real vs. false labor so you won't jump in the car at the first contractions. Take the class, you won't regret it!
My early labor was from midnight into the morning and I pretty much slept through it. In the morning I felt waves of pain that came and went and when I saw the bloody show I knew it was time to call ABC. We arrived 2 hours later, they were already waiting for us. I labored in the bathtub for a while and had our baby shortly after (3hrs after we arrived). It was a satisfying birth! There were 5 midwives at a time there for me and baby. What a privilege!
It took them 6 hours to fix me up and get me ready to go home with the baby. I really appreciate how patient and gentle they were (I couldn't get up to bath room and then couldn't empty my bladder). And then they took their time to stitch me up gently. Krisha was the last to leave, she made sure I was well enough to go home. She was so sweet!!
All and all, I want to say big thanks to everyone in Allen Birthing Center (Rebekah, Kristen, Josephine, Diane, Lauren, Lana, Krisha and Amy) for being excellent at what they are doing. I'm looking forward to having my baby #2 there!
Notes for expecting mamas:
- Don't just prepare for labor, prepare for postpartum as well. My first 2 weeks was 10 times worse than labor!!
- Take the birthing class
- Listen to midwives and control your breathing, it makes a difference between painful and blissful labor.
Good luck!

Amy, you are amazing and a blessing to us! I simply can't thank you enough!

Cannot recommend ABC enough!

Kristen, Debbie, and Hannah were just amazing. They were more than I could have ever asked for in a birth team. They all worked together and with me to help me find the strength to bring our little boy into the world the way we wanted to. Thank you so so much for making this one of the best memories of our lives.

When it came to the actual labor and birth of my child, Kristen and Nellie were there and were absolutely incredible. I had a doula present (shoutout to Nikki Knowles with Dallas Birth Doulas), and all of them worked so well together to make the best birth team around. I
I could go on and on, but I'll wrap up my review here. Long story, short: have your baby here. You will NOT regret it!!

My son arrived in 2014 and had even more surprises than his big sister. Due to complications at 39 weeks I had to transfer for an induction. I was SO thankful for the privileges they had at Baylor and the fact I was able to continue my care with the providers I had built a relationship with.
ABC is incredible in every way!

My third child was born at the Allen Birthing Center. I can’t stress enough how much having my third child at a birth center made it an extremely positive experience. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially fathers. First and foremost, the experience level of the staff is unparalleled in my opinion. These are people that typically have already worked for many years in labor and delivery. After having seen just about everything, they go on to further education and specialization in midwifery. They're passionate about patient care and providing the best possible environment for the whole experience. We received dedicated attention during the entire process, including pre and post care appointments and certainly during the birth.
The birthing center was comfortable and felt like home. The Allen Birthing Center is actually a home (or was) which is now a dedicated birthing facility. The whole experience was professional, private, and felt very normal. Also, my wife wasn't tethered to monitoring devices. We were able to move around freely to help the labor along. Carol Bunker, our midwife, was there the whole time to monitor everything. Her dedication, and passion were obvious. The most amazing part was the actual birth. My wife went into labor at 6:45 in the morning. My son was born around 7:30 that evening. I was encouraged to be an active participant throughout the birthing process and actually got to put my hands on my brand new son as he came into the world. It was a remarkable experience! We were at home with our baby around 10pm that evening. I would recommend the Allen Birthing Center to anyone and have recommended it on many occasions.
